Research Center for Energy, Informatics and Materials

The Research Center for Energy, Informatics and Materials (ICEIM) of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts is established on 28 February 1986.
The role of the Center is to initiate and coordinate the national research programs and to perform high-level research in particular fields.
Within ICEIM four divisions are acting:
Energy, Environment, Neuroinformatics and Materials.
At the moment, ICEIM participates in 16 international research projects listed bellow, financed from foreign funding (EU/ESF, EU-FP6, UNDP, IAEA, and the Governments of Austria and Hungary:

1. Renewables for Isolated Systems – Energy Supply and Waste Water Treatment (RISE);
2. Production Process for Industrial Fabrication of Low Price
Amorphous-microcrystalline Silicon Solar Cells (LPAMS);
3. Advanced Control Concepts for More Microgrids
(MORE MICRO GRIDS);
4. Regional Solar Thermal Program (RSTP) – Solar Water Heaters;
5. Generation, Compilation and Evaluation of Atomic and Molecular Data for Fusion Plasma Diagnostics;
6. Preparation of GHG Inventory for the Second National Communication to UNFCCC;
7. GHG Abatement Analysis for the Second National Communication to UNFCCC;
8. Diagnosing Vulnerability,Emergent Phenomena, and
Volatility in Man-made Networks;
9. Bioinformatics and Neurofeedback;
10. Electric Neuronal Oscillations and Cognition (ENOC);
11. Neural Regeneration and Plasticity (NEREPLAS);
12. Advanced Methods for the Estimation of Human Brain Activity and Connectivity (NEUROMATH);
13. Consciousness: A Transdisciplinary, Integrated Approach;
14. Communication Network Data Analysis;
15. Upgrading the Capacities for Research of Health Effects in
Children from Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields;
16. Development of Researchers Mobility Policy Guidelines

for the Region of Western Balkans (WEB-MOB).

Additional seven ICEIM Projects, financed from domestic sources, are listed in the section devoted to the Department of Mathematical and Technical Sciences.
The permanent staff members of ICEIM includes: six academicians, two research scientists, three research assistants, two research assistants-volunteers and one technician. In addition, thirty five collaborators from other scientific institutions in Macedonia are engaged within the ICEIM research projects.
During the last 10 years the permanent research staff members of ICEIM have published over 400 papers in international scientific journals.
The Center is a focal point in Macedonia for the IAEA Electric Power Database and Methodologies and the UNESCO World Solar Summit Process.
Also, ICEIM is the residence of the Macedonian National Committee of the World Energy Council, and the member of the International Network of Centers for Sustainable Development.
On the national level, ICEIM has established an open tribune “Challenges and Shadows of Science”, as well as a reward “Young Scientist of the Year”.
ICEIM cooperates with numerous domestic and foreign research institutions.
