Educational activities

One of the basic goals of the RCGEB is the education of young scientists through research. In the past 20 years numerous young researchers have been educated in the basics of molecular biology and in the techniques of genetic engineering and biotechnology. Seven junior assistants were provided with one-two year scholarships for training and specialization in the USA and Great Britain. Twelve Ph.D. theses have been prepared at the RCGEB, 3 of which were defended at the University of Maastricht, The Netherlands, 3 at the University of Sofia, Bulgaria, 1 at the University of Belgrade, FR Yugoslavia, 2 at the University of Zagreb, Croatia and 3 at the University of Skopje, Macedonia. At the same time, 2 master degree theses were defended at the University of Zagreb, Croatia, and 9 at the University of Skopje, Macedonia. In the past 20 years many  scientists from abroad have visited the RCGEB on a shorter or longer basis for training and specialization. The RCGEB is also the educational unit of the University of Skopje for postgraduate studies of molecular biology and genetic engineering. The theoretical and practical courses of these disciplines are being given to students from the Faculties of Medicine, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Faculty of Agriculture. Since 1998 the RCGEB is the coordinator of Interdisciplinary postgraduate studies on molecular biology and genetic engineering, organized by the University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius" - Skopje. 31 students have already defended their master degree thesis. The RCGEB staff is also engaged in the education and training of clinical biochemistry and medical genetics specialists at the University of Skopje.
